The last North American Aviation P-51 Mustangs in squadron service with the United States Air Force were retired from the 167th Fighter Bomber Squadron, West Virginia Air National Guard, 27 January 1957. This airplane, F-51D-25-NA 44-72948, is on display at the WV ANG headquarters, Yeager Regional Airport, Charleston, WV.

A U.S. Air Force Airman from West Virginia Air National Guard C-130 Hercules aircraft lands at Aviano Air Base, Italy, Nov. 3, 2015, with on board U.S. paratroopers of the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade after five months training in Lithuania during Operation Atlantic Resolve. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the Army Contingency Response Force in Europe, capable of projecting ready forces anywhere in the U.S. European, Africa or Central Commands areas of responsibility within 18 hours.
