Nellis Air Force Base

Nellis AFB is located 8 miles northeast of Las Vegas.  It is Headquarters, Air Warfare Center, and home to 57th Wing; Air Demonstration Squadron (Thunderbirds); Air Force Weapons School; and 66th Rescue Squadron.  It also houses the Threat Training Facility.  Nellis AFB is named for 1st Lieutenant William H. Nellis, a Second World War P-47 Thunderbolt pilot who was killed in Europe 27 December 1944.
