Vintage Wings of Canada

The aim of this website is to locate, identify and document every historical Warplane preserved in Canada.  Many contributors have assisted in the hunt for these aircraft to provide and update the data on this website.  Photos are by the author unless otherwise credited.  Any errors found here are by the author.  French Translation of the technical data presented here would be appreciated.  Corrections, amendments and suggested changes may be emailed to the author at hskaarup@rogers.com.

Vintage Wings of Canada (VWC), Gatineau Airport, 1699 Rue Arthur Fecteau Street.  VWC is a not for profit, charitable organization, with a collection of historically significant aircraft.  The facility is located at the Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport, Québec.  It was founded by former Cognos CEO and philanthropist Michael U. Potter.  Most of the aircraft in the collection are in flying condition, or being restored to flying condition and are frequently flown.

Hawker Hurricane Mk. IV, RAF (Serial No. KZ321), Reg. No. CF-TPM, previously G-HURY, currently the only airworthy Mk. IV.  KZ321 was built in the Kingston upon Thames factory in 1942 in England.  It served with 6 Sqn RAF in Grottaglie, Italy, and other squadrons in Greece and Yugoslavia.  Abandoned in Israel in 1947, the aircraft was returned to the UK in 1983.  It was acquired by the Vintage Wings of Canada Collection, in 2006.  Vintage Wings of Canada, Gatineau, Québec.

Canadian Car & Foundry (Hawker) Hurricane Mk. XII, RCAF (Serial No. 5447), built in 1942, flown by the RCAF until 1946, Reg. No. C-GGAJ, being restored to airworthy status.  It is painted to represent a Hurricane Mk. I, RAF (Serial No. P2961), coded LE-A, as flown by RCAF Pilot Officer Willie McKnight, DFC during his service in the Battle of Britain in 1940.  McKnight was lost in action on 12 Jan 1941.  At the time, he was the highest scoring ace in Douglas Bader's No. 242 Squadron, with 17 kills, plus two shared and three unconfirmed.

North American P-51D-25NA Mustang, USAAF (Serial No. 44-73463), c/n 122-39922, RCAF (Serial No. 9575), previously "Oklahoma Miss", Reg. No. N351D, currently CF-VPM, painted in RCAF 442 Squadron colours as worn in 1945.  Michael Potter, Vintage Wings of Canada, Gatineau, Québec.

Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk. XVIe (Serial No. SL721), C-GVZB, 421 Squadron, N9721WK.  Owned by Michael Potter.  Refinished in the markings of AU-J from No. 421 Squadron RCAF.

Supermarine Spitfire F Mk. XIVe (Serial No. RM747).  This aircraft is in storage.  It served with No. 322 (Dutch) Sqn, No. 350 (Belgian) Sqn, No. 451 (Australian) Sqn, before serving with the Royal Thai Air Force as (Serial No. Kh.14-5/93).  During the 1980s it was part of a playground at Sawankalok, Thailand.

Supermarine Spitfire HF Mk. IXe, (Serial No. TE294), painted as (Serial No. MK304), Y2K.  The remains of this fighter were rescured from a South African scrapyard in the 1990s and partly rebuilt by volunteers at the Comox Air Force Museum as a millennium project and as an homage to the wartime pilots of 442 Squadron.  442 is currently an RCAF Search and Rescue Squadron based at 19 Wing, Comox.  TE294 arrived at Gatineau, Québec in late September 2014 and was restored at Vintage Wings of Canada.  It is now airworthy, and was first flown 7 June 2017.  It is painted as (Serial No. MK304), Y2-K as flown by Flt Lt Arnold Roseland, RCAF No. 442 Squadron, and is now flying in British Columbia.

Westland Lysander Mk. III (Serial No. 1206), C-FVZZ.  It is painted in No. 400 "City of Toronto" RCAF Squadron markings, and is doped silver overall with RCAF (Serial No. 416).  After a full restoration, it first flew 18 June 2010 in Gatineau, Québec.
