Canadian Car & Foundry (Hawker) Hurricane Mk. XIIa, RCAF (Serial No. 5447), (Serial No. 46002), C-GGAJ. RCAF (Serial No. 5447) was taken on charge 29/9/42, struck off charge 20/8/46. Sold to Vintage Wings of Canada, photographs show ‘new’ cowlings, probably ex Russia. Civil registration C-GGAJ, Gatineau, Québec. With No. 124 (Ferry) Squadron at RCAF Station Rockcliffe, Ontario when it was in a Category B crash at Pourquis aerodrome, (near Timmins, Ontario?), following an engine failure, at 10:55 on 4 September 1942. Probably ferrying from Fort William at this time. Taken on strength by No. 1 Training Command, for the Home War Establishment. To CC&F at Amherst, NS from 2 October 1942 to 5 July 1943 for repairs, back to EAC when completed. Re-identified as Mk. XII on this day, not clear if there was any conversion. To stored reserve with No. 3 Training Command on 29 November 1944. To No. 1 Air Command, still in storage on 15 January 1945. To No. 2 AC on 9 May 1945, out of storage with them on 4 June 1945. Available for disposal from 12 July 1945, with 312:40 hrs airframe time. Purchased by H. Whereatt of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan in 1988, restored first as static display, marked “AE*W”. Further restoration work, to civil register as C-GGAJ, registered to Harry Edwin Whereatt, Box 31, Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, S0H-0B0, from 7 April 2000, first flight in May 2000. To 3638651 Canada Inc. of Ottawa on 23 August 2006. Under restoration at Vintage Wings of Canada in 2006.

Beechcraft Baron 95-B55. This aircraft served as a "Bird Dog" with Saskatchewan Forest Fire Management until it was retired. The aircraft currently resides at the SIIT's Aircraft Maintenance Engineers school in Saskatoon as a teaching aid, where it is used to assist the instructors in the art of airframe repair and maintenance techniques.
Bristol Bolingbroke Mk IVT, RCAF (Serial No. TBC). This aircraft is to be rebuilt from the remains of four aircraft, donated from the Reynolds Museum Alberta, in 2015 through CAPA (Canadian Aeronautical Preservation Association). When the long restoration process is complete, the aircraft will be painted in either the colours and markings of RCAF No. 2 Bomber and Gunnery School Mossbank, or No. 5 of Dafoe during 1942-43.

Fleet 60K Fort, RCAF (Serial No. 682), Reg. No. C-GTCL. Previously (Serial No. 3642).
Messerschmitt Bf 109G10/U4, being rebuilt by retired aviation engineer Don Bradshaw. When completed, it will be the only flying Bf 109G10/U4 in the
world. This aircraft would have been completed at the WNF factory in February 1945, with the test flight occurring about Feb. 17/45. After a successful test flight, it would have been turned over to the Luftwaffe. Aircraft left the German factories in standard camouflage paint schemes, and were later re-painted when they arrived at the front (if required ). As this aircraft was completed in the winter of 1945, a season-correct paint scheme would have been applied that allowed it to blend in with the surrounding terrain. Often these aircraft were repainted in less than ideal conditions. This aircraft was equipped with two 13-mm machine guns that were located in the top rear engine cowls. They were electrically timed to fire through the propeller blades without hitting them. A 30-mm cannon was located in the forward lower cockpit area, between the pilot’s legs, and fired through the propeller reduction gearbox (and out the centre of the propeller spinner).

Noorduyn Norseman Mk. IV, RCAF (Serial No. 2471), c/n 44, restoration project. The museums Norseman MK IV entered RCAF service in 1941 assigned to British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) No. 2 Training Command (Winnipeg, Mb) in Oct 1943 to Dec 1944 during WWII. Placed into reserve then overhauled Dec 1952 was sold April 1953 to Royal Norwegian Air Force until it was withdrawn from service April 1959, and sold. Various Norwegian commercial operators owned this aircraft until 1975. Eventually was sold, dissembled, packed in containers at Norodden, Norway and shipped to Blue Water Aviation in Manitoba. This Norseman has resided in covered storage in its present state for the past 46 years.

This aviation handbook is designed to be used as a quick reference to the classic military heritage aircraft that have been flown by members of the Canadian Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force, Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army and the Canadian Forces. The interested reader will find useful information and a few technical details on most of the military aircraft that have been in service with active Canadian squadrons both at home and overseas. 100 selected photographs have been included to illustrate a few of the major examples in addition to the serial numbers assigned to Canadian service aircraft. For those who like to actually see the aircraft concerned, aviation museum locations, addresses and contact phone numbers have been included, along with a list of aircraft held in each museum's current inventory or on display as gate guardians throughout Canada and overseas. The aircraft presented in this edition are listed alphabetically by manufacturer, number and type. Although many of Canada's heritage warplanes have completely disappeared, a few have been carefully collected, restored and preserved, and some have even been restored to flying condition.
