The French Navy as planned for the late 2030s: a Bâtiment ravitailleur de forces (fleet tanker) conducts simultaneous underway replenishment with the Future French aircraft carrier and with a Frégate de défense et d’intervention (Defence and Intervention Frigate).
The French Marine Nationale in the Second World War was a powerful, modern force comprising battleships like the Richelieu and Dunkerque classes, numerous cruisers, over 70 destroyers, and 76 submarines. Split between Vichy and Allied forces (Free French) after 1940, key units saw action at Mers-el-Kébir, Dakar, and in Pacific/Indian Ocean operations.
