Warplanes of the USA: Washington, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, McChord Air Museum

Joint Base Lewis-McChord, McChord Air Museum, Building 517, PO Box 4205, 98438-1109.  Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) is an American military installation located 9.1 miles (14.6 km) south-southwest of Tacoma, Washington under the jurisdiction of the United States Army Joint Base Garrison, Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

 The facility is an amalgamation of the United States Army's Fort Lewis and the United States Air Force's McChord Air Force Base which merged on 1 February 2010 into a Joint Base as a result of Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations of 2005.  The McChord Air Museum features exhibits about McChord Field and a collection of restored military aircraft:

Douglas C-124C Globemaster II (Serial No. 52-0994).  This aircraft was formerly under civilian registration N86599 and located for many years at the Detroit Institute of Aeronautics.  On 9 October 1986 the aircraft was flown non-stop from Selfridge Air National Guard Base near Detroit, Michigan to McChord Air Force Base.  While flying over Washington State the aircraft was joined by a Lockheed C-130 Hercules and Lockheed C-141 Starlifter of McChord's 62nd Military Airlift Wing. This is the last recorded flight of a C-124.
