The aim of this website is to locate, identify and document North American P-51D Mustangs preserved in the United Kingdom.  Many contributors have assisted in the hunt for these aircraft to provide and update the data on this website.  Photos are by the author unless otherwise credited.  Any errors found here are by the author, and any additions, corrections or amendments to this list of Warplane Survivors of the Second World War in the United Kingdom would be most welcome and may be e-mailed to the author at hskaarup@rogers.com.

North American P-51C Mustang (Serial No. 42-103007), remains.  Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby Airfield, Lincolnshire.

North American P-51D Mustang (Serial No. 44-13521), “Marinell”, Reg. No. G-MRLL, Maurice Hammond, Hardwick, Norfolk.  Airworthy.

North American P-51D-10NA Mustang (Serial No. 44-13954), “Da Quake”.  This aircraft crashed on a beach near Bordeaux on 26 Aug 1944.  Reg. No. G-UAKE, Philip S. Warner, Coventry, Warwickshire.  Being restored.

North American P-51D Mustang (Serial No. 44-14291), Phil G. Earthey.  Being restored.

North American P-51D-10NA Mustang (Serial No. 44-14574), “Little Zippie”.  This aircraft ditched off Clacton Pier on 13 1945.  It was recovered on 16 Aug 1987.  The fuselage is displayed in crash state.  East Essex Aviation Museum, Martello Tower, Point Clear, Essex.

North American P-51D-20NA Mustang (Serial No. 44-72035), “Tall in The Saddle”, Reg. No. G-SIJJ.  Painted with a red tail and spinner in the colours of the 99th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, USAAF.  Previously “Jumpin Jacques”.  Peter Teichman, Hangar 11 Collection, North Weald, Essex. Airworthy.

North American P-51D Mustang (Serial No. 44-72216), 487th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group, 8th Air Force.  Operated by Robert Lamplough, it is painted as "Miss L" for the film "Memphis Belle".  It was operated later by the Swedish Air Force (Serial No. 26116) and the Israeli Defence Force (Serial No. 2343).

Hopkins, 374th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group.  Previously with the Old Flying Machine Co, Duxford, Cambridgeshire. Airworthy.  This aircraft has been sold to a private collector in Turkey

North American P-51D-25NA Mustang (Serial No. 44-73877), ex-RCAF (Serial No. 9279), RAF (Serial No. KH774), "The Shark", No. 112 Squadron, RAF colours.  Reg. No. G-SHWN, Shaun Patrick, Sharkmouth Ltd, Goodwood.  Airworthy.  This aircraft has been repainted to represent the Mustang flown by Col Donald Blakeslee, 4th Fighter Group (FG).  It has a red nose scheme and is painted as (Serial No. 44-13779), coded WD-C, with a set of black Quick Identification markings on the tail and wings.

From 2015 - 2019, 44-73877 Reg. No. G-CMDK (ex G-SHWN) flew as "The Shark" in this eye catching and unusual No.112 Squadron RAF scheme. At the time she was owned by Shaun Patrick and was initially based at Goodwood before moving to Duxford. Maintained by The Aircraft Restoration Company and flown by The, she was a regular sight at airshows across Europe. In 2020 she was completely repainted into a bare metal USAAF 4thFG scheme and the markings of  Col. Don Blakeslee's nameless P-51, coded WD-C. In 2021 she was sold to Warbird Experiences Ltd (Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar) and now spends her time between experience flights at Biggin Hill and displays with the Rolls Royce Heritage Flight.

This Mustang has a long history on the European airshow circuit. From 1985-2012 she flew as part of The Scandinavian Historic Flight and spent many years painted in the silver 357th FG "Old Crow" scheme. Aside from various temporary schemes she kept these markings until 1999 when she became "Detroit Miss" of the 361st FG, however by 2001 though she gained the camouflage version of "Old Crow". Sold to Nordic Warbirds in 2012 she was soon sold to UK based Shaun Patrick who initiated a major restoration. She joined the UK register as G-SWHN and gained the shark mouthed No. 112 Squadron RAF scheme.

North American TF-51D-25NT Mustang (Serial No. 44-84847), previously "Contrary Mary", currently "Miss Velma", Reg. No. N251RJ, Reg. No. G-TFSI, Stephen Grey, The Fighter Collection, Duxford, Cambridgeshire.  Airworthy.  Built too late for the Second World War, this aircraft flew with the 45th Reconnaissance Squadron during the Korean War.  It was acquired by the fighter collection in 1999.  It is painted to represent "Miss Velma", flown by Captain Frank E. Birtciel of the 55th Fighter Group.  Airworthy.

North American P-51 Mustang Mk. III, coded QV-D.  Although there are no Mustang Mk. IIIs preserved in the UK, many were flown by the RAF during the war.

North American Mustang Mk. IIIs of No. 129 Squadron at Coolham in Sussex, June 1944. The squadron was one of many transferred to 2nd Tactical Air Force in support of the Normandy invasion. It later returned to Fighter Command, flying long-range bomber escorts.

North American Mustang Mk. IVA, RAF (Serial No. KM219) in the United Kingdom, after assembly.  This aircraft was delivered as a P-51K-10-NT, USAAF (Serial No. 44-12342).  It was retired on 2 June 1947.

Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) CA-18 Mustang Mk. 21 (Serial No. A68-110), ex-RAAF "Snifter" (Serial No. VH-MFT), painted as P-51D Mustang USAAF (Serial No. 44-15152), coded QJ-T "Jersey Jerk". Built in 1947, it is now owned by Fighter Aviation, Sywell.
