Willys Jeep modified with the hood of a civilian car, in service with the Canadian Army in Europe during the Second World War. British census number M44232600.  This number was not used in Canada except on a few newly produced Otters, although a few other newly made vehicles during the war may have had it painted on them.  Universal Carriers have such a WD census number stamped into the top edge of the armour plate in front of the driver but had the DND number painted on while they were serving in Canada.  The DND census numbers were used in Canada.  The white star, British Jerrycan and modifications also suggest that the photo was taken in UK or Europe.  (Colin MacGregor Stevens)

Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk. VIIIc (Serial No. JG567), "Mary Ann", No. 67 Squadron, RAF.  Pilots are sitting in a jeep in front of the Commanding Officer's Spitfire at Akyab, Burma, 9 Jan 1945.  This was a day after a section led by the CO shot down five Japanese Nakajima Ki 43 Oscars from a force which attacked the port following its reoccupation.  Four of the five Nakajima Ki-43 kills from the 64th Sentai, IJAAF, were confirmed by post-war examination of Japanese records.

At the wheel is the Commanding Officer, Squadron Leader R.W.R. "Bob" Day from Victoria, British Columbia, who shot down two of the Ki 43s, and sitting next to him is Flight Lieutenant C.M. Simpson, who claimed another two.  The other pilots are, (left to right), Warrant Officer G.W. Milsom, Flight Sergeant E.R. Owen and Pilot Officer L. Brett.  JG567 was struck off charge in May 1945. 106-mm M40A1 Recoilless Rifle mounted on an M38A1 CDN3 Jeep, NBMHM.

The crew-served 106-mm M40 recoilless rifle is a portable anti-tank weapon that could also be used in an anti-personnel role with the use of an anti-personnel tracer flechette round.  The bore was commonly described as being 106-mm but is in fact 105-mm.  The 106 mm designation was intended to prevent confusion with incompatible 105-mm ammunition from the M27.

Chevrolet C15A truck, 15-cwt swb, late model with the round hatch, alongside a Canadian Army GPA amphibious jeep, P.5219935, Germany, ca 1944-45.  The “P” prefix for the British War Department Census Number is for Amphibious Vehicles.

The official caption states these are personnel of the 2nd 7th Reconnaissance Regiment (17th Duke of York’s Royal Canadian Hussars) transfering from a "Seep" (amphibious jeep) to a Chevrolet C60S truck serving as the unit bus at Weener, Germany on 13 Feb 1946.

Conspicuous vehicle markings include the formation sign of the 3rd Canadian Division, CAOF on each vehicle (the French-Grey marking of the 3rd Division was retained by the CAOF), War Department numbers, a speed limit marking on the windshield (35mph) of the 60-cwt, faded white blackout markings on the bumper, lift rings, and rear view mirror of the truck, and unit signs.  The Arm of Service flash (green over blue) of a reconnaissance unit is evident on the truck; the jeep appears to have a blue/yellow/red AoS flash indicating a RCEME unit.  Just visible in the photo are unit and formation signs on the upper bonnet of the truck, and what appears to be a tactical sign on the door of the truck.  The "BUS" sign is an unofficial addition by the unit.

Jeep on the flight deck of HMCS Bonaventure as the Naval helicopters "co-mingle" with Army equipment. This movement of Army equipment from Norway to Canada was one of the Bonaventure's last missions before it was decommissioned on 3 Jul 1970.
