Chino, Planes of Fame Air Museum – Where Aviation History Lives, 7000 Merrill Ave, # 17, 91710-9084.  (909) 597-3722.  Founded in 1957, The Planes of Fame Air Museum Air Museum, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to preserving aviation history for the benefit of current and future generations.  The Planes of Fame Air Museum preserves, restores, and displays rare and historic aircraft.  Support of Planes of Fame ensures that the history of America and the sacrifices of its veterans will not be forgotten.  (Aircraft in the Planes of Fame collection in Valle, Arizona, are listed separately).

Boeing B-50A-5-BO Superfortress (Serial No. 46-0010), “Lucky Lady II”, forward fuselage, in storage.  The first nonstop around-the-world flight was accomplished by the Lucky Lady II assigned to the 43rd Bomb Group.  The flight which lasted from 26 Feb to 2 Mar 1949, took 94 hours, 1 minute to complete.  Lucky Lady II flew a route covering 23,452 miles and required numerous in-flight refuelings.

Messerschmitt Bf 109E (Wk. Nr.), built in 1939.  It was known to have flown in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain as an E-1. After upgrade to an E-7 it was delivered to the Eastern Front where it was flown by the highly decorated German Pilot Wulf-Dietrich Widowitz.  He was shot down by a Hurricane while on an escort mission in 1942 . He made a near perfect, forced, wheels-up landing on the ice of a frozen lake.  The plane sank through the ice an came to rest on the lakebed.  Widowitz died more than a year later in another crashlanding.  The aircraft remained untoched until its recovery in 2003.

Captain Walker "Bud" Mahurin of the 56th Fighter Group standing on the port wing of his P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft, conversing with its crew chief, Staff Sergeant John E. Barnes in 1943.  The aircraft had been "bought" courtesy of war bonds purchased (to a value approximately equivalent to the cost of a fighter) by the citizens of Atlantic City, New Jersey.  Consequently, the name painted on the aircraft was chosen by Atlantic City.
