Lockheed P-38E Lightning (Serial No. 41-2202) as it would have looked flying out of Colorado Springs in 1942.  This aircraft crashed on takeoff at Colorado Springs, Colorado on 8 Aug 1942.  Pilot Lt. Edward J. Northrop P-61B-15 Black Widow.  Oil on canvas panel, 16 X 20.  A P-61A-1 (Serial No. 42-5496) was test flown by the RAF at Boscombe Down in the UK from March 1944 until it was returned to the USAAF in February 1945.

 

My father, RCAF Warrant Officer (Retired) Aage C. Skaarup, flying his home-built Challenger Ultralight over our farm near Lakeville, New Brunswick.  Oil on canvas panel, 16 X 20.  The barn, built in 1908 and once the tallest barn in New Brunswick, had large murals painted on it by the artist's father.  The barn has since been torn down due to heavy damage from an ice storm.
